Enrolled Agent (EA) An Enrolled Agent is a federally-authorized tax practitioner who has technical expertise in the field of taxation and who is empowered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to represent taxpayers before all administrative levels of the Internal Revenue Service for audits, collections, and appeals. Only Enrolled Agents, attorneys, and CPAs may represent taxpayers before the IRS.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certified Public Accountants are Tax Professionals who have received state certifications to practice accounting.
Attorney Attorneys are Tax Professionals who have received state certifications to practice law.
Small Business/Sole Proprietors Small Business certified Tax Professionals are knowledgeable in the preparation of tax returns for small businesses and small business owner(s). These Tax Professionals have successfully completed advanced training in tax situations unique to Sole Proprietors, Partnerships and S Corporations.
Retirement Retirement certified Tax Professionals have successfully completed H&R Block's certification program focusing on the tax impact of choosing various retirement options. These Tax Professionals have advanced training in the preparation of tax returns with retirement plan contributions and distributions and rollovers.
Investment Income Investment Income certified Tax Professionals are knowledgeable in the preparation of tax returns with various types of investment income. These Tax Professionals have completed advanced training covering the various investment options and how the income, gains, and losses from these investments impact current and future year tax situations.
Military Military certified Tax Professionals have successfully completed H&R Block's certification program focusing on the unique tax situations encountered by Military personnel and their families. These tax professionals have advanced training covering Military specific tax laws and the preparation of Military tax returns.

The above certifications are awarded by H&R Block based upon training completed and do not represent any certification from a government or other independent agency.
